Dances and Important Stuff

Reminders and Info:

Student Choreographed Dances:
Must be 1/2 done on Thursday November 3rd.
In class showings and peer critiques on choreography.

If dances not completed by set time-frame, or cleaned by set date, dances can and will get cut from the concert.  Same with dancers, if dancers do not show up, they may be pulled from a section of the dance, or the whole dance all together, as per PDC contract.

PDC Daily Homework:  dancers must learn, review, and perfect material learned the previous day in class from his/her choreographer.  You have homework in every class, and this class is not different.  The choreographer does not have time to continually re-teach material, it is the dancers responsibility to have it down so the choreographer can move on with material.

FRI NOV. 4th:  Football Half-Time @ Lp
School wants us to do the big homecoming mash-up routine with everyone this Friday.  We must have 100% participation (if you can't do it, we have some dancers that didn't do it that would be willing to learn your part).  This is great exposure for us and to show we are willing to support our school.   You should remember the routine, it is just formations we may need to review/work on.

PDC BUDDIES:
Don't forget your buddy's birthday or half birthday!
Please remind and help your buddy out with remembering practices, assignments, etc.

Dancer Spotlights:
Officers:  Don't forget to do, present, and turn in your Dancer Spotlight so we can highlight one dancer on our bulletin per week!  This "should" be done on the Monday you teach technique.

Vampire Dance:  We will have practice EVERY Friday Morning at 6:15 AM!

Field Trip:  "Complexions Contemporary Ballet" matinee ($3)
November 8th (A-day, school-excused)

More Information:

PDC Winter Concert Coming Up:
Get your work off NOW!  The 2 weeks before our performance is our major "concert week" in the auditorium.  Mandatory attendance or major demerit points!

PDC Winter Social: TBA date/location
Wear "ugly Christmas sweaters", potluck soup and bread bowl, presents (white elephant or socks?), watch holiday movie.  Will be at a PDC member's house.  Will be AFTER our concert.

Philly Tour:  $100 non-refundable deposit due soon.  Stay posted for emails, handouts, etc.

Lp Homecoming Carnival & Halftime Performance

Lone Peak Fight Song
PDC Dancers are so versatile they could be cheerleaders (just don't listen to their singing)

This past weekend was a lot of fun.

PDC participated in the carnival before the game.  We had a booth with henna (by our amazing Jasmine), jedi braids (way to braid Ashlyn and Cierra), nails with crackle paint, and otter pops.  Huge thanks to Jasmine and family, et all. for putting this together last minute!  (officers, please post pics)

Thumbs Up!
I don't have to
pee my pants
anymore!

HI!
The Homecoming halftime consisted of dancers from PDC, cheer, drill, and ballroom, and the captains/officers of each team helped choreograph and put it all together (supposedly).  Event though there was miscommunication and difficult extra practices, it turned out quite well.  I am proud of you dancers!  Here are some pictures.

Now we REALLY need to start working on Shakespeare which is the beginning of October! Be prepared for extra and late/early practices dearies.
We are all friends
Going Down

Pose.  Fly Cheerleaders, Fly!

Dancin'

All together now
The End
Getting ready to welcome players back on field.
Notice the gal who is always ready to pose for a pic :)

Summer and PDC info

daCi
Please let me know if you are planning on going to "dance and the Child international" intergenerational national conference in Texas! I will put you in touch with all the others from PDC who are planning on going, so you can plan your travels together, if you want. Again, we will need to be there Monday July 11th for our first practice ALL together at in Denton, Texas. The other schools are counting on us!

We need to start working on choreography together ASAP. The other schools/dancers already have most of their parts done. I will share the theme and concept and music with you and we will all brainstorm and choreograph it together! This will look great on your dance curriculum vitaes (cv)!

If you are planning on going, when are you here in Utah and available to do some rehearsals? Next week I will teach pilates here on Tuesday at 8:30am, then technique (prob a mix between ballet and modern) at 8:30am, both in the dance room. We could possibly start practicing after those classes? Any other suggestions on time? I will have to bring my kiddies, so if anyone has someone who would like to come and "watch" them, that could be great... hint hint ;)

My schedule is open all next week! Then The following 2 weeks I will be taking the RDT professional Cunningham dance intensive from morning until around 4pm in SLC. So possibly I could do later in the day those 2 weeks. After those 2 weeks I am here until we head to Texas.

We just really need to get choreo out! Even if you are not going, you are welcome to come and assist with an outside eye on choreography. PLEASE let me know if you are going! We need at LEAST 3 dancers, but the more, the better.

RDT 2-day high school workshop
If you were interested in attending this 2-day high school workshop (usually goes from 9am to 4pm, with technique, comp/improv, repertoire, and some other form like yoga or hip hop, etc. I will pay out of our remainder PDC money for 2-3 of our next year dancers to go. If you want to go, but money is not a problem and you can pay yourself, let me know and I will sign you up (just bring the money the first day). Since this is not a full company sponsored event, you are welcome to carpool or get there and back however your parents allow. It costs $95 (from what I remember off the top of my head).

The dates that they have some openings are either July 11-12 (session 1) or 15-16 (session 3). If you want to do this, I want to put all of you in the same session. Let me know which one you are able to do, how bad you want to do this, and if money would be an issue or not. I will take all this info and decide on first reply basis and the session with the majority of dancers. Let me know as soon as possible, as these sessions fill up with any and all high school dancers from all over Utah.

Cedar Hills Parade
Who is wanting to do this? Anyone want to do choreography for it? It would need to travel. We would also need some sort of truck and sound system too.

Look here at our Blog for updates on info about when I am doing free summer conditioning/technique classes, when Nyah is doing her practices for "Take Two", when daCi practices are, and if/when PDC dancers are getting together to do anything fun or whatever.

Have a Great Summer!

Utah State Dance Festival

We had such a great time at State. We had fun staying overnight at the Marriott, going to amazing master classes and performing in the gala. We also performed Nyah's Bird dance and Caine's Cricket dance extremely well for the adjudication (and had awesome hair and makeup). Here are some highlights from State:

Brittany LeSueur - Sterling Scholar Finalist

Excerpts from Brittany LeSueur (Dance Sterling Scholar Finalist) in the Deseret News and Daily Herald Newspaper Article:

One of the Sterling Scholar finalists, Britany LeSueur of Lone Peak High, suffered a major setback only a few weeks before this important part of the competition.
Right after the regional portion of the process, she fell on some ice and suffered a radial head fracture in her arm — a devastating development, since her area of expertise is dance. Two weeks of doctor's appointments and hard work followed.
"I tried to keep as much of my original routine as I could, but some of it I couldn't," LeSueur said. "It could've easily been looked at as a disadvantage, but I think when we're faced with those kind of limitations, it allows us to be more creative. It definitely allowed me to find a lot more ways of do things I would've never thought of."
With mature poise and ambition, LeSueur and the other finalists said they have valued the opportunity to take part in the competition and do so well.
"It's been a lot of work and a lot of waiting, but I think it's definitely been worth it," she said. "It's helped me realize a lot of stuff about myself, also. I know I'm going to keep my portfolio for a long time ... (and) while winning would be awesome, whatever happens happens."

The final 13 winners and 26 runners-up will be announced at Cottonwood High School at 7 p.m. March 23.

Brittany also explained her Sterling Scholar experience in our March 2011 PDC Newsletter:

"The Sterling Scholar competition has been an extraordinary experience. It has been well worth the large amount of work. I have had to compile my scholastic, service, leadership and dance achievements into my portfolio. I then had to prepare for my solo, improvisation and interview. I was always asked about the choreographic devices I have used or the process I went through. When I was choreographing I looked back at all of my notes and handouts on choreography. I was able to choreograph using creative devices and then explain it using proper terminology and specific examples from my solo to show my choreographic skills. I then was given a random improvisation prompt.  Improvisation is an advanced technique that takes risky dancers. It requires you to commit completely and just go for it. Improvisation is where you show your creativity, your knowledge and your range of dance.  In my interviews at the school, region and state levels I was asked questions about figures in modern dance history, dance in public education, the elements of dance, dance in society and even about the future of technology in dance. I was able to effectively answer these questions from everything I have learned in dance 3 and Dance Company for the past 3 years. I made it to the state level because of the guidance and vast knowledge of the elements and history of dance that I have learned from Mrs. Di Lello and PDC. I have also been to several college scholarship auditions, and I have seen that the dancers that come from Lone Peak are known for being extremely knowledgeable and creative dancers. We have many opportunities other schools do not. Anyone wanting to go on in dance or get dance scholarships should continue to work hard on Dance Company and in dance 3 in addition to studio or technique classes. This is the best path to achieving great things in dance. I am so grateful for everything I have learned on Dance Company and the tools is has given me to have a successful Sterling Scholar experience."    ~Brittany LeSueur, PDC President

Cedar Hills Parade

Today PDC participated in the Cedar Hills Parade!

Thanks to all who came and danced to represent PDC. A big thanks to our helpers who drove the truck for us :) Thank you to Brittany and Nyah who came up with the movement for parade. We did good improvising to random music since we had generator, ipod connector, problems.

I guess next time we need to bring more than 2 bags of costco candy and more than 100 otter pops (the otter pops were meant for the dancers, but we ran out of candy).

Anyone have any pictures of us?
