PDC September Email and Newsletter

Hello all!

We have had a successful Dance Camp and first few weeks of school.  Routines are getting set and PDC Officers have been voted on.  We also have our "Dance Buddies" for the first semester.  We will do something with/for our buddies about 2x a month.

We did figure out who made the long-distance calls during our hotel stay during Dance Camp.  It was an honest mistake/misunderstanding with the calls.  The dancers are good kids :)

All dancers will be working on required and graded research and proposals for student choreography for our upcoming concert based on ART.  Reading, Homework, and other assignments will reflect and prepare students for their proposals and for a deeper understanding of what art is.  We are also looking at doing collaboration with some of the art classes at the school.

OFFICERS:
We have Officer Meetings every Monday at lunch in the Dance Room Office.  We will have one Officer Meeting a month where we will invite parent helpers/booster club to join us.  Officers are:  President-Alex M, Sav B; VP-Malori; Secretaries-Mariah($), Brittany F (calendar);Publicity-Jenna, Jenae; Costumes-Ireland, Lily; Spirit-Izzy, Morgan.

  • pull hair back and no gum in class
  • GET INTO GOOGLE CLASSROOM!!!!
  • look at Group Me texts (get app?)
  • Reading Homework due first class day of the week
  • All parent chaperones must have background check done.  Check in at office if visiting.
  • Be able to access and save our shared Google Drive, Calendar, Google Classroom, Skyward, GroupMe, etc.
  • Parents are welcome to join and follow us on our social media sites: our closed Facebook Group, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Our mandatory after school rehearsal time with all PDC is Tuesdays 2:20-4:40pm.  Do not be absent, and arrange make up work, etc. other times.  Absences will require make-up work to be done.  Every practice is worth participation points.
  • Remember what 10-20 minute warmup we have each day, and bring appropriate attire/shoes.
IMPORTANT:
  • Have you paid for the clothing items you ordered?
  • Have Parents come to the Parent-Teacher Conference to "approve" our PDC Tour

PDC this week, and our upcoming CONCERT!!!

Hello lovely ladies!

Good job to those that tried out for PDC for next year!  The list with the new member's names has been given to the counselor to put in.  Leave it blank, B8 (B-day 4th period) on your schedule.
New Members, you will be performing Nat's combo in the dance concert.  Date and time of a short 1-2 hour rehearsal tba shortly.  Also, Congrats to Akaysha Greer, next year's PDC President!

Thursday is when we should have our dances cleaned, as per our calendar.  Please work hard!

Costumes:  It is almost past the deadline to purchase costumes that will need to be shipped.  I hope we can use things we already have, or find some cheap things in nearby stores.  Choreographers, please be on top of costuming your dance.

Choreographers:  Whitney is working hard trying to put together the concert program on her own time.  Please get all information to her as soon as possible, including title, music artist, dancers, and any notes.
Choreographers, have your music cut by this Thursday.  If you need help, Mrs. D, Akaysha, and some others may be able to help with music editing.  If you have a mac and garage band, it is really easy.

Finale:  Natalie and Kalli will be working with you on the finale and should have the music cut this week.  Grade levels, have your sections of choreography completed this week and cleaned as much as possible.  We will be doing some of this in class.

Natalie's Dance:  we will be working on this in class, (as well as the finale).

Extra practices:   your choreographer may have called an extra emergency practice to finish off or clean their dance.  Now is crunch time, and you need to attend and be on time to every practice.
I know this Saturday morning Natalie, and Whit/Kenna are having an extra practice.  Please check with your choreographers.

Mandi's Practice:  Due to Junior registration, Mandi's practice was changed from Monday to this Wednesday, right after Autumn's dance.

Nyah's Practice:  Due to missing dancers, also because of registration, Nyah will be having a practice this Thursday following Autumn/Kalli's dance, right at 3:40pm.

Poster:  Ashlyn, Akaysha, and Natalie, please send your outline drawing of how you want the poster, along with the picture/photo to Mrs. Di Lello as soon as possible, early this week.  If you can do it on your own without my help, in photoshop or some other program, please do so.

Slide Show:  Please send your favorite photos from this past year to McKenna.  I think Kenna and Whitney were going to put together the slide show, with a Vegas section.  We can show this at intermission or right before the finale.

Tickets:  Who was making these?  We will also need volunteers (parents) to sell/take tickets and concessions both days of our concert.

All info for concert (poster, slideshow, program, tickets):  please approve and run a draft by me, Mrs. Di Lello for approval, then they will be sent off to the printers.  You do get NHSDA points for doing this, as you are helping "put on" the concert!

National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA):
If you want to be inducted or get extra points (starts) please turn in your packet no later than Friday of this week for processing.  If you have not been inducted you will need to pay the induction fee.  If you are graduating and want honor cords, please also pay the according fee and get all of your info in to me so I can order them.

SCHEDULE for CONCERT WEEK:
I hope you have gotten off your work and made appropriate arrangements for these upcoming 2 weeks.  If there are some extenuating circumstances, please let me know no later than this WEDNESDAY the day and the latest you can stay at the school, and the earliest you can come back to the school.  I know that things sometimes come up and I will try my best to arrange certain dances to be at the best times.  I will try to have most of our practices done no later than 8:00pm, but this all depends on the techies and your patience.  Guest choreographers, please get me the all the times you are available to space and light your piece.  I want to get our schedule out to everyone by the end of this week (fingers crossed).

Remember, when you are not spacing or lighting on the stage, you will be cleaning your dance in the dance room.

Parents:  We would love to have parents bring some snacks and drinks on the nights of our lighting and tech-ing.  We will have a sign up in the dance room and will be asking the dancers to sign you up for a certain day for either a snack or drinks.

Our concert (not recital) is only as good as you make it.  You are all beautiful and talented!  Let's put forth the little extra effort to show everyone how amazing we are!  This does require work, and work pays off :)

More and updated info will be posted often here on our blog.  Keep checking!

Love you all!  Keep being amazing!

Dances and Important Stuff

Reminders and Info:

Student Choreographed Dances:
Must be 1/2 done on Thursday November 3rd
In class showings and peer critiques on choreography.

If dances not completed by set time-frame, or cleaned by set date, dances can and will get cut from the concert.  Same with dancers, if dancers do not show up, they may be pulled from a section of the dance, or the whole dance all together, as per PDC contract.

PDC Daily Homework:  dancers must learn, review, and perfect material learned the previous day in class from his/her choreographer.  You have homework in every class, and this class is not different.  The choreographer does not have time to continually re-teach material, it is the dancers responsibility to have it down so the choreographer can move on with material.

FRI NOV. 4th:  Football Half-Time @ Lp
School wants us to do the big homecoming mash-up routine with everyone this Friday.  We must have 100% participation (if you can't do it, we have some dancers that didn't do it that would be willing to learn your part).  This is great exposure for us and to show we are willing to support our school.   You should remember the routine, it is just formations we may need to review/work on.

PDC BUDDIES:
Don't forget your buddy's birthday or half birthday!
Please remind and help your buddy out with remembering practices, assignments, etc.

Dancer Spotlights:
Officers:  Don't forget to do, present, and turn in your Dancer Spotlight so we can highlight one dancer on our bulletin per week!  This "should" be done on the Monday you teach technique.

Vampire Dance:  We will have practice EVERY Friday Morning at 6:15 AM!

Field Trip:  "Complexions Contemporary Ballet" matinee ($3)
November 8th (A-day, school-excused)

Email sent out 10/13/11

I am posting this email I sent out just in case some of you don't check your emails or have changed emails.  I want to make sure we are all on the same page.

Hello Dancers!

Great job doing your proposals.  I was impressed with the research and effort many of you put in.  I wish we could have more dances, but our time is limited.  I hope some of you propose your dances next semester again!

Wonderful work at Shakespeare.  Huge thanks to our wonderful parent chaperons!

Heads up, we only have about a month to start, finish, and have your student choreographed dances cleaned before we go into the 2 weeks of concert prep.  Please do not miss class or after school practices, as we are on a tight schedule.  That said, choreographers, always come prepared with material or tasks to do during your hour.

PDC PICTURES:
Your pictures orders are due tomorrow (Friday).  Please have your envelope ready to turn in to me tomorrow.  If you have specific questions, contact Sherry Ward, the photographer.  I also need the picture # of which headshot photo you want me to order for the pictures I am ordering to put up on our bulletin board.

Social: Sadie's Dance
optional, but for those who would like to go to Sadies as a dance co. group.  I will be teaching swing dance at 5:30pm in the dance room for an hour, then I think the dancers will be going to an old diner, then the dance.  Dress theme is 50's / Greece.

SHAKESPEARE ASSIGNMENT:
One to two page type written paper about what you learned from our Shakespeare trip.
Due: Tuesday October 18th

Halloween Social: ? TBA?

State Dance Festival is confirmed for Sat Feb 18th at the UofU.

Need deposit soon for our big trip to Philadelphia to purchase tickets.  Trip helper moms looking at ticket prices, please keep me informed, we should act soon, contact me once you contact an airline and get "real" prices.

I have also attached our "Dancer Spotlight" so we can start presenting those with the information all the dancers submitted at the beginning of the year (the questionnaire).  If you still didn't do it, please do it :)

You are all wonderful, I am so happy to have you on company!
Please remember to take time to keep up your dance technique and take ballet classes :)

Publicity Officer: you may want to get out how well we did to the school (school newspaper) or anywhere else that you can think of, or even write up a little thing about our experience there.

happy dancing--
KD

Important Upcoming Dates - Info for Parents and Dancers

It's Performance Time for the Performing Dance Company!!!!
Here are some upcoming DATES you need to know about!!!  Mark your calendars!
Remember not to schedule family events, doctor, dentist, tests, etc. during our PDC practice times.  We really need all of our time to finish and work on our dances we are performing.

Drill Concert - Thursday March 24th 7:00pm @ Lp Big Gym
Stay at school until we are finished performing in concert.  Will have a 30 min break to get food.  We are in first half of the concert.  First we do Shakespeare Ensemble, then we do Bird Dance
2:30 is PDC practice
3:30-4:00 is spacing in small gym for drill
4:00-4:30 is spacing in big gym for drill (drill concert is in big gym).
4:30-5:30pm continue our PDC after school dances.
Break, eat, get make-up and costumes ready.
6:00pm - Call.  You can leave when you are done performing.

Parent Meeting - Trip Approval for daCi Conference, Texas - Friday March 25th @ 2:30pm in Lp Dance Room
Submissions for Trip Approval for Spring Summer must be turned into the District with parent approval before April 1st.
I need to call a super short quick meeting to get approval from each parent that this trip is worth it and educational.  By signing and approving this trip it does not mean that your child is attending the conference.  I estimate maybe only 5 or so students will go, but it still needs approval from all parents.

We would like to open up the opportunity for some of our dancers (those who want to and can do it) to attend the "dance and the Child international" conference in Texas this summer.  We are invited to do a collaborative choreography piece with other high school dancers from Philly, New Mexico, Seattle, and Florida for the opening ceremony of this conference!  There are many classes, workshops, and performances with dancers all ages from all over!  We hope to do fundraising to help cover some of the cost of this festival.  It is quite reasonably priced, just need to find cheap airfare...anyone want to help me find prices and break down cost?  I will be going there anyways as I have been asked to teach some of the junior high dance technique classes.  This is a great experience for the dancers, with lots of networking with many famous dance educators.  This conference will be in Thailand in 2012!  To see all details go to: http://www.daciusa.com/pages/4thintergen.htm

Mt. Ridge Dance Co. Concert - Tuesday March 29th 7:00pm @ Mt. Ridge Jr. High Auditorium
Friday March 25th B1 Nyah and Brit light dances at Mt. Ridge
Tuesday March 29th
- PDC regular After School Practices 2:30-4:50pm.  Then eat, get ready, head over to Mt. Ridge
- 5:30-6:00pm PDC dances spacing on stage (do not be late)
- 6:00-6:30pm warm up all together
- 7:00pm concert starts.  We are dances #6 and #10 out of 17 dances, which are all short (3 minutes long).  We will be doing Konda and Bird Dance.

Dance Company Festival - Thursday April 7th - all day, school excused (A-day)  Permission Forms coming soon!
This is a new festival in it's pilot stage this year.  It will include adjudication in various dance genres, workshop classes, and an evening gala performance.  It is only for student choreography.  It will cost roughly $15 per student.  Parents will drive their own son/daughter to and from the festival which is at the Covey Center.  Schedules have not yet been sent out yet.  They will adjudicate Bird, Shakespeare Ensemble, and possibly Ashley's Chair Dance, but we can only perform 2 in the gala.  It does cost for spectators to watch the adjudications and the gala.

We will need parent chaperons to be in attendance, especially for the Gala and the late afternoon/evening, since I (Mrs. Di Lello) have a mandatory dress rehearsal that night in SLC for a show I am performing in the next day.  Please Please Please let me know if you (parent) can come and chaperon our dancers!

Guest Choreographer: Chelsea Ellis (Hip Hop)
Only for dancers who have proven themselves thus far with points, attendance, etc.  Special "Beatles" Hip Hop choreography.  Utilizing different styles of hip hop.  Must commit to being in attendance each practice.  Optional additional Mondays during same weeks at same time.  May continue the week before spring break, depending on how fast it is learned.  Dates:
Wed, March 30th: 3:00-4:30pm
Fri, April 1st: 3:00-4:30pm
Wed, April 6th : 3:00-4:30pm
