Upcoming dates and information for PDC
Hi again!
The State High School Dance Festival is rapidly approaching! It is all day Saturday Feb 8th 2014 at BYU. We will be sharing a bus with Lehi. This festival will only cost you $10 for the whole day!!!!!!!!! You will need to bring your own lunch, costumes, etc. Parents/chaperones are welcome to come and help at no charge. (I would love help, since I am in charge of State, and will be running around the whole time). You will be getting a permission slip with details, etc. shortly.
I'll attach the schedule of just our technique class and adjudication. I'm still working on the master schedule with all of the other elective classes.
After school practices:
We cannot have anyone miss ANY after school practices these next 2 weeks, since our time is short and we need every rehearsal to get our dances good for adjudication.
GRADES:
Dancers cannot have an F in any current class or he/she cannot participate in trips or competitions (like state or nationals or field trips or performances).
FUNdraiser at Classic Skating!
All dance company is required to help promote and attend at least one of the nights partying at Classic Skating. We will get a percentage of the money brought in by Lone Peak students when they go on the following days: March 14th (country dancing) and 15th (decades roller disco).
We will be doing proposals for new dances right after State. Those dancers wishing to choreograph, be prepared with 1 minute of movement, a proposal sheet, and any research or supporting materials for your idea.
PAYMENTS - IF Late, you will be charged/added $5 per day onto your total. Please pay on time.
SCHOOL SUPPORT: PDC wants to go together on the school bus to support our school Drill Team at State this upcoming Friday.
SHOUT OUT: to Cierra (awesome new and dedicated PDC President), Jaiden (for stepping up and picking up Brad/Tara's dance), and Abby and Ninoska (for being our sweet and wonderful newest members: welcome to the family)
Luv ya,
"Enjoy the Journey"

We're IN!!!!
GREAT NEWS! We are Going to Nationals!
After being on the wait list for months to attend "The National High School Dance Festival" we received news yesterday that we are off the wait list and all set to go! There were so many schools and dancers that registered that there was enough for two festivals!
This festival only happens every other year and rotates between Miami and Philadelphia. This year it is a Philadelphia. This is BIG. Many fine arts, magnet, and charter schools attend this festival, as well as schools from Australia, Canada, Hawaii, and Europe. There are auditions for graduating seniors during one of the days for University and summer program scholarships, as well as professional company. One such recruiter is Julliard.
This festival is so great because it is arts based and is not competitive in the sense that there different ratings such as first, second, third place. It helps foster talent and artistry to the highest level in our dancers. Every single time I have taken my dance company, they have been blown away at the talent and choreographic level of other high school students their same age from across the nation. It is good to get out of our bubble sometimes.
MORE GREAT NEWS!
We were also accepted to perform in an informal concert featuring student choreography! Our PDC President Beth Covey's dance "Dollhouse" was accepted into this performance. It is a huge honor to be able to perform at this festival amongst all the other amazing schools. I usually have to tell my dancers not to expect to have any of our pieces accepted or to get their hopes up because we are just a normal public school. Seriously, some of these other schools are so good and have original Paul Taylor or Graham works re-created on them. THIS IS A BIG COMPLIMENT to us as dancers, performers, and choreographers!
Just because we don't focus on trophies or halftime performances does not mean we are not doing great things! Our school's Performing Dance Company is really well known and highly thought of by all the university dance programs around Utah.
Keep up the good work dancers. We have lots of work to do, but you are doing wonderful, and I hope you do feel recognized for your accomplishments. STATE and NATIONALS, here we come.

Utah State Dance Festival
We had such a great time at State. We had fun staying overnight at the Marriott, going to amazing master classes and performing in the gala. We also performed Nyah's Bird dance and Caine's Cricket dance extremely well for the adjudication (and had awesome hair and makeup). Here are some highlights from State:
