Great Beatles Concert PDC!

Good work lovely dancers!

It was stressful with a serious lack of auditorium and tech time this time around, but Friday night turned out great!

During the "Flying Free" - free as a bird underwater video my 4yr old kept swimming in his seat, then every now and then would say "oh no, water in my eyes".

Caine's bug dance was quite a hit and added nice diversity to the show.

We had some great slide shows, fun, serious, and silly dances, lots of Beatles memorabilia, great dancing, and lasting memories.

On Friday we had the induction ceremony for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts chapter at our school - way to go you 10 dancers!!  Also on Friday we gave our seniors roses and had some tears... a bitter-sweet last night for some of our dear dancers.

Through hard times, good times, silly times, and stressful times, we have all grown so much together, opening ourselves up to take creative risks, and trust each other as a dancing family.

I love my Performing Dance Company!!!

But to everyone who tried out:

"Good Work Beautiful Dancers!"

Thank You to everyone who tried out!  Also a BIG thanks to my seniors who helped with the auditions and kids!

It takes juts, courage, practice, confidence, and putting yourself out there to do auditions.  Especially good job to those that stuck through the clinics and came back to do the auditions - that shows determination and not giving up!  Every chance you have to do auditions makes you better.

Do not let any audition determine your sense of self or worth or talent!!!!  Keep trying, don't give up, develop your talents, and fight for what you love.  Often times when one door closes, another opens.  Sometimes it doesn't have to do with "who is best" but who the director feels will be best for the company.  Disappointments prove our character when we are able to get back up and positively learn from it to be a better person.

I have dealt with this personally.  I had been in an audition I really wanted, and felt I did awesome.  The director after called me in to talk and said I was one of the best dancers, but felt it wasn't right to put me on right then.  The other judges all were amazed, as they thought I was one of the strongest ones...  But it ended up that this hard pill to swallow left other opportunities open for me and I realized at that time in my life I had other things I needed to take care of.  I never did give up, as dance is still a huge part of my life!

I really hope that everyone who makes it onto PDC really wants to be there and will be positive and will work hard, no matter what is asked of them.  A team really is determined by who is on it and their attitudes, and each year it is very different for me.  It is one of my greatest joys to see dancers learn and grow and develop, applying what they learn to become problem-solving, creative artists who will take risks, think for themselves, find their own voice and SHINE.  (This has been demonstrated time and time again by my PDC dancers who have gone onto college/companies and those that have done the Dance Sterling Scholar).

Remember, PLEASE keep taking dance at a studio to develop your technique, ESPECIALLY BALLET!!! All dance should support each other, not be one or the other.

Love you all!!!!

Happy Dancing!!!!
