PDC Practices.... After School Reminder

In case you forgot, our regular PDC times are:

Mondays:  1:30-2:40 pm
Tuesdays:  2:30-4:40 pm
Wednesday-Fridays: 2:30-3:40 pm

EVERY PRACTICE IS WORTH PARTICIPATION POINTS.  Absences, leaving early, or being tardy result in a lower participation grade.

You should have scheduled and requested those times off from when you auditioned for PDC last school year (the times were the same as above and set).

You may have times/days when you don't have practice (especially when we start auditioning for student choreographed works, after Shakespeare), but these times were supposed to be blocked off.

You cannot miss practices 1 week before any performance, or you will get multiple demerits.  This is in the contract and demerit paper.

You must be at our scheduled practices, especially since Shakespeare and Homecoming is so close.  No more leaving rehearsal unless it is a deathly emergency and I have received notice from your parents.  This lets the whole team down, wastes a practice, and requires us to have more practices.  Please remember your commitment to the team, and this busy stressful time with both Homecoming and Shakespeare that require excellence on our part, which requires actual attendance on the part of each individual.
"The Sum of Us is Greater than the Individual." (Fish poster in the dance room)

Love you,
Let's enjoy the journey, which means being positive and finding joy in hard times, and finding purpose through working through those tough and stressful spots!  It's these times that show and define our character.

Thursday at Lunch

Officers, meet tomorrow at lunch with other captains to finalize middle of halftime.

Also, all:
Don't Forget:  Fitted End-Of-Week!!!!  Pull out those leotards and tights to look profesh.

Homecoming Practice Times and Service Project

Pay for bra tops asap! They are coming in tomorrow. You get it when I get yr receipt.

Homecoming Practices:

- this Sat 6:00 am! On field! Spacing
- next Tues 6:45 am! In main gym. Cleaning
- next Thurs 6:45 am! In main gym, then field. Problems and perfection.

- next Friday, carnival booth after school, then halftime performance, then...
-mandatory graded assignment: service project: pick up in stadium bleachers right after game. Should only take 30 minutes. Gloves and bags provided.

All is mandatory and attendance, staying whole time, and punctuality is scored and will affect your grade. Luv u!

New Dancers of PDC 13-14!!! Happy Summer!

I hope your summer is treating you all well!

I have been taking an awesome technique class at the Salt Dance Festival at the U with a former Doug Varone dancer, Netta!  We have also been in the process of selling our townhome and buying a home, along with swimming lessons for the boys.  We will be moving the end of June to Lehi, just down Mill Creek Pond Rd, not too far.  So, yes, lost of packing, cleaning and unpacking!
I will be heading to Canada (Vancouver Island) to see my family in July.  In August I will take the RW Teacher's workshop, do our PDC Dance Camp, and take the first couple days of the GAGA workshop right before I have my back to school teacher meetings.  Then, school starts, along with my grad school classes too!

A couple things, if you don't check the facebook PDC 13-14 group...

1)  Update or email me your updated or corrected contact information from the link emailed out.  It will be a big spreadsheet of everyone's contact info, along with parent contact info and what parents can do to help out.

2)  Apply to be a PDC Officer!  We want to vote by the end of this week, so if you have forgotten, please fill out the application.  https://docs.google.com/a/alpinedistrict.org/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGp6TjBRRDZ0V2RWd1o2YWgtMFZZVnc6MQ#gid=0

3)  Hang out with your PDC friends :)
I know you may not know them yet, but through blood, sweat, and tears or joy, you will become best friends.

-I know some people have pass of all passes and wanted to hang out at Seven Peaks, so send a shout out on FB or in an email!

-Go to the Utah Arts Festival!  I'll be performing with Movement Forum, and there will be performances by Ririe-Woodbury, Repertory Dance Theater, Project Bandalloop (yes, ARIAL dance off the side of a building), etc.  all for FREE!  Talk to Akaysha about when she is going and where to meet.  Info is on FB too.

4)  Going to the RDT High School Workshop?  Talk to Akaysha, Bailey, and Sabrina and their parents.  I know others were planning on going too.  Make sure you register asap and register for the same block of classes so you can get a dance set on all of you!

5)  Will you be here for the Highland Fling Parade?  Contact Whitney.  Whit and Monica and Kenna are in charge of planning the dancing portion of it.  We will need parent help planning the float (truck and music) and anything else.

6)  PDC Dance Camp!!!!  Please pay for this.  It will be available online next week (I am in classes when Lp is open, so I can't get there to set it up).  I hope you are all being healthy and exercising!  You will need running shoes for this!  If you are dying to choreograph for Shakespeare let me know asap, otherwise I think I will invite in guest choreographers.

7)  PDC Retreat?  We could also have a sleepover at someone's house (Mrs. Frampton has volunteered her yard) on the Friday-Saturday, in between the RW workshop that is a part of our dance camp.  I don't know if that date is not good?  We can do another thing as well.  Jennifer Frampton said we can project a movie on the side of her house, and I have all the Step Ups AND Cirque du Soleil "At World's End" which is awesome!!!!

8)  Guest Master Classes!!!
-So, I contacted Cirque to see possibilites of a master class while they are here doing Stadium of Fire.  If I hear anything back from them, I'll let you know.
-Marcus Burglar from Nevada City Ballet said he can do a class and possibly choreo while he is passing through Utah in June.
-Diane Rawlingson, from InterPLAY in Chicago, and a high school teacher (who will also be at the National High School Dance Festival in Miami with her students), has volunteered to teach some free master classes and help with stuff, such as choreography suggestions, etc.  She does great team-building and getting comfortable with improvisation stuff!!!  She will be here the end of July for a week.  Please let me know what days and times of day are best for classes.  This is a great experience I want all the dancers to partake in if possible.
-I've contacted Caine Keenan about possibly setting choreo, but it would be at the dance camp or after school has started.

Anyways,
I need to work on my own school work and stuff here.  Busy in the summer still!
Hope all is well.

Please be in touch with each other!  I'll send out a voting roster at the end of the week for officers, then I want to meet with officers asap to start planning.  If you are not an officer, please feel free to email and give your input and ideas to myself and the officers.

Luv ya'll

PDC 2012-2013

This year has been amazing!! Where do I even begin? As a company we have had SO many wonderful opportunities and experiences that have helped us grow both individually and as a team. To start off the year we had our retreat which brought all the girls together and made so many friendships. We then had the opportunity of being in the homecoming football game halftime show, which we collaborated with drill team, cheer, and ballroom to make an awesome performance! The next month we attended the Shakespeare festival in cedar city... we competed and took master classes and supported teams from all across Utah! Our winter concert... which was full of student and professional choreography. STATE. Such an awesome experience. We took two dances to be adjudicated. There were incredible classes taught by professional dancers, and scholarship opportunities etc. Some of the team was able to go to Las Vegas and attend cirque du solei performances and visit the bodies exhibit. And to kick of the year we finished it out with our spring concert. This year has taught me so much! Even though difficult at times... so worth it! I love my dance family so much and I will never forget what this year has taught me and how much ive leaned. Love You ALL!

PDC Officer Application

We will vote on officers at our meeting on Friday, May 31st at 2:00 pm.

Please have your Officer Application filled out and "submit"ed before that time!

This year acording to Jessica Jensen
This year was amazing! I learned so much and made so many good memories and good friends!  This year started out amazing at the dance camp in august I loved working out with all the amazing ladies on dance company we really bonded while we were running our guts out down by the pond!  After the school year started we had a great time learning dances for half times learning the homecoming dance and doing fundraisers at the different school events.  One of my favorite times on dance company was definantly the shaksepeare festival.  I learned so much and loved preparing the dances for it.  I learned that you need to think abaout the audience and the people watching or judging so that it keeps the audience interested.  I loved taking all the different classes by the different instructors they taught me so much!  Our winter concert was so fun and I enjoyed all of the dances I was in so much even though we had a little drama it was so fun and I loved having it with all the girls! Next came state... even though I broke my toes it was an amazing experience The classes were amazing and I learned so much! At state I learned the importance of preparation so many of the schools were really prepared and I was really impressed and it helped me be more motivated to try harder and work harder!  Last but not least was our spring concert! we had a party in every second of the concert process...man I love dance company so much! the ladies on it are so amazing and so talented and I am so lucky to get to know them and dance with them they have become my best friends and lets not forget to mention krista! Krista has taught me so much and I have loved learning from her! The biggest thing I think I learned this year was Hard Work!  I am so gratful for the wonderful opertunity to work with this amazing company! I love all you ladies!

PDC Memories :)

I've learned sooo much this past year, being on PDC.  I've learned so much and have become so much more comfortable doing improv and working with groups.  I've become best friends with all of the girls on the team and love them all dearly!  PDC has been an amazing experience for me.  I've loved all of the amazing opportunities like Shakespeare festival, Social retreats, State, field trips, dancing with Cirque du Soleil and many more.  I have grown as a dancer and choreographer more than I ever have.  My views on dancing have changed for the better:)  I've gotten to meet so many new people and work on my leadership and social skills as well.  The girls on the team have become my best friends and I'm so glad that I had the privilege to dance with them.  The whole experience has been so amazing and I cannot wait till next year!!
     Much love,
        ~Whit Jewels

What I learned from PDC...

I absolutely loved being on PDC this year! Honestly we have created the best memories, done some of the most amazing things, danced with some of the best people, and accomplished so much as a team! Dance Company is an outlet for me to express myself and it has helped me create my own style of dancing. It has been a safe and comforting place to be creative and to be myself. I have learned that you don't have to just dance a specific style, you can dance anyway you want. I have grown so much as a dancer because I am able to not just do the movement but feel it and dance it my own way.  I'm so grateful for all of the dances I have been in because each was a new experience to put myself into the piece and it has helped me become a better dancer. Dance Company is the best decision I made this year and I'm so grateful for everything I have learned as far as dancing techniques and different styles of dancing but I am also so grateful for what I've learned about being on a team. Even though we had some rough mornings and nights getting up early or staying late at the school practicing (especially during concert week) we always somehow made a party out of it and worked hard and pulled through together. I have made the best friends this year, they all mean the world to me! They inspire me every day to be better and work harder and I love all of the inside jokes and memories we have made this year! I'm going to miss Kalli, Ash, and Nat so much. I don't want to see them leave. This really has been such an amazing year and I'm excited for next year and hope it is just as amazing!

What I learned in PDC this year

I have learned so much this year on PDC.  Along with making so many new friends and I have definately grown as a dancer.  I learned that there is many ways to dance.  And dancing isn't about the type of style you do.  But I also think that it's important to have diversity on dance company and I think even though we do a lot of modern stuff, its good to have concert because we're able to do whatever we want to do.  Whatever type of dance we feel like expressing.  Its a good feeling to know that coming into dance company is such a comfort every day.  Its a time to really just let everything go and shut the world out and not think about anything stressful or important.  I also learned the importance of a team coming together.  It really helps when the whole entire team really puts in the effort.  It make a big difference.  And im really excited for next year because now I know what its like to be on dance company and its definately hard work.  I definately learned that.  And im so excited for next year!

What I learned in PDC...

I have learned so many new things this year in Lone Peak Dance Company.  I am so glad that I decided to try out this year!  I have had so much fun on Dance Company and I absolutely love all the girls on the team.  Having such a close relationship with everyone on the team also makes it easier to dance with them and perform because we are all nice to each other and we all know how each of us dances and what our strengths and weaknesses are. How I dance now, and how I used to dance at the beginning of the year are totally different, but its a good thing.  I don't just go through the motions like I used to, now I put emotion into it and always have the intent of the dance in mind.  I have learned so many new choreographic techniques and things to help me for when I want to choreograph a dance someday.  I have learned how to work better with others and how to make dancing my passion.  I have also learned many new improv techniques that can definitely help me for tryout for professional teams or if I decide to pursue my dancing career.  I love Dance Company and I am so glad that I got the chance to do it this year!  ~Chayn:)

My Time On PDC

This was my second year on PDC. I can honestly say that it was an experience in many ways. First off I got to meet some of my Best friends on PDC, both years. I have gotten to know so many of the girls so well. Not only that but they have got my back even when some people don't. I can always go to those girls for support. I have also met the sweetest most soft hearted girls in my life, and they have been such a great influence on me! I also got the opportunity to choreograph a dance! It was definitely hard but if it wasn't for the girls that took it to state then I wouldn't have felt as satisfied as I do now! they killed it! I have loved seeing every single person improving! I also love all of the opportunities that have been brought forth through PDC! I have gained so much from it choreographically, being a dancer, and just a person! I just want all of my girls to know I LOVE YOU! and you are all BEAUTIFUL!!! I am going to miss you all so much next year!!!

~AshLyn~

My time on PDC!

I love dance company. I get to dance with some of the most amazing people in the world! Everyone is so hard working and so lovable. I know I came late into the year, but I was amazing at how welcoming everyone was towards me. Each and every person inspires me and encourages me to keep on dancing. I was even givin the amazing opportunity to choreograph and it was an unreal experience. Choreography is very important to me and everyone is so open to new and creative ideas. Everyone was really helpful in helping and correcting problems I had with my dance. I love how we all work together and everyone is so positive and loving. I am so graetful I was able to spend time with Dance Company this year. It was amazing and I can't wait to do it again next year. I love each and every one on the company. And thank you sooo much Krista for all you do for the company. Couldn't do it with out you. Love you all!!! Thanks so much everyone. (:

My Time on Performing Dance Company: Kalli Elmer

It's crazy that this year has gone by so fast and we have done so much! This year has been my favorite, not only because of the dances and the activities. But because of the girls on our team. Joining dance company was the best decision I've ever made because not only have my dancing improved but also I made so many new friends who became like sisters to me. One thing that sets us apart from any other dance program in our school is that we may not be able to do 6 turns in a row, but we know how to feel in a dance. We learn how to have musicality and properly express out feelings through our movement. Another thing I like about Dance Company is the variety of our dances. Not only can we kick butt in our hip hop, but we can handle sensitive topics like the Holocaust. Our concerts have a theme and it gives us an opportunity to expand and to have new ideas. I loved being able to choreograph because I have always wanted to do a fun jazzy dance and this semesters theme was perfect. Although I had choreography blocks and changed things a lot, It was totally worth is when I heard the audiences reaction to my dancers. The Last thing that I love is the opportunities that dance company has given me. I have been able to dance and perform in Philadelphia for Nationals, dance with professional companies  and receive scholarships! I wouldn't have been able to accomplish any of that with being apart of dance company. I will miss it and all the girls! LPHS PDC DANCE, DANCE, DANCE *whisper* AWESOME!

Costumes:  It is almost past the deadline to purchase costumes that will need to be shipped.  I hope we can use things we already have, or find some cheap things in nearby stores.  Choreographers, please be on top of costuming your dance.

Choreographers:  Whitney is working hard trying to put together the concert program on her own time.  Please get all information to her as soon as possible, including title, music artist, dancers, and any notes.
Choreographers, have your music cut by this Thursday.  If you need help, Mrs. D, Akaysha, and some others may be able to help with music editing.  If you have a mac and garage band, it is really easy.

Finale:  Natalie and Kalli will be working with you on the finale and should have the music cut this week.  Grade levels, have your sections of choreography completed this week and cleaned as much as possible.  We will be doing some of this in class.

Natalie's Dance:  we will be working on this in class, (as well as the finale).

Extra practices:   your choreographer may have called an extra emergency practice to finish off or clean their dance.  Now is crunch time, and you need to attend and be on time to every practice.
I know this Saturday morning Natalie, and Whit/Kenna are having an extra practice.  Please check with your choreographers.

Mandi's Practice:  Due to Junior registration, Mandi's practice was changed from Monday to this Wednesday, right after Autumn's dance.

Nyah's Practice:  Due to missing dancers, also because of registration, Nyah will be having a practice this Thursday following Autumn/Kalli's dance, right at 3:40pm.

Poster:  Ashlyn, Akaysha, and Natalie, please send your outline drawing of how you want the poster, along with the picture/photo to Mrs. Di Lello as soon as possible, early this week.  If you can do it on your own without my help, in photoshop or some other program, please do so.

Slide Show:  Please send your favorite photos from this past year to McKenna.  I think Kenna and Whitney were going to put together the slide show, with a Vegas section.  We can show this at intermission or right before the finale.

Tickets:  Who was making these?  We will also need volunteers (parents) to sell/take tickets and concessions both days of our concert.

All info for concert (poster, slideshow, program, tickets):  please approve and run a draft by me, Mrs. Di Lello for approval, then they will be sent off to the printers.  You do get NHSDA points for doing this, as you are helping "put on" the concert!

National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA):
If you want to be inducted or get extra points (starts) please turn in your packet no later than Friday of this week for processing.  If you have not been inducted you will need to pay the induction fee.  If you are graduating and want honor cords, please also pay the according fee and get all of your info in to me so I can order them.

SCHEDULE for CONCERT WEEK:
I hope you have gotten off your work and made appropriate arrangements for these upcoming 2 weeks.  If there are some extenuating circumstances, please let me know no later than this WEDNESDAY the day and the latest you can stay at the school, and the earliest you can come back to the school.  I know that things sometimes come up and I will try my best to arrange certain dances to be at the best times.  I will try to have most of our practices done no later than 8:00pm, but this all depends on the techies and your patience.  Guest choreographers, please get me the all the times you are available to space and light your piece.  I want to get our schedule out to everyone by the end of this week (fingers crossed).

Remember, when you are not spacing or lighting on the stage, you will be cleaning your dance in the dance room.

Parents:  We would love to have parents bring some snacks and drinks on the nights of our lighting and tech-ing.  We will have a sign up in the dance room and will be asking the dancers to sign you up for a certain day for either a snack or drinks.

Our concert (not recital) is only as good as you make it.  You are all beautiful and talented!  Let's put forth the little extra effort to show everyone how amazing we are!  This does require work, and work pays off :)

More and updated info will be posted often here on our blog.  Keep checking!

Love you all!  Keep being amazing!

PDC 2013-2014

Good job to everyone that tried out!  Remember to keep auditioning and to never give up!  This is not the end, only the beginning.  Remember the quote I gave in the audition:

If you did not make it this year, please try out again next year.  For some of you, I want to see you in the other LP dance classes and see you investment and improvement, and would love to see you on PDC in following years.

LOVE YOU ALL!!!

For those that did make it onto this list...
This is not a guarantee you will be on next year for it may be contingent upon some of the following:

*required forms are not turned in
*missing teacher recommendations
*probationary until grades are fixed
*more technique is required, especially over the summer
*poor teacher recommendations and personal interview is needed
*needing to enroll in Lp Dance 2 or Dance 3 (this is a requirement for PDC)
You will get a personal email with what specific things I will be needing from you.

Important Info for New PDC:

Lp PDC Spring Concert is May 9-10th at 7:00 pm.  Please come (you get in for free).  You will be performing Natalie's Contemporary Combo right before the finale at the end of the concert to introduce the audience to next year's team.  Please make every effort to be there.  We will have a short 1-2 hour practice to space everyone out and review the combo, with date TBA.  Keep checking this blog and your email and join our PDC facebook pages!  Also please add the PDC google calendar to your calendar for important upcoming dates and assignments.

A New Member and Parent Meeting will be held after the PDC Concert, date TBA.  We will review the expectations, requirements, etc. for the upcoming year.  I will be printing off our dates and info for you to give to your studios, in hopes we can work together with scheduling to support our dancers.

Before the school year ends, we will have a New Member Social.  Here I would also like to vote and appoint Officers for PDC so the officers and I can start working over the summer making plans and getting things ready.

We will be having some socials, planning meetings, and perform in some parades throughout the summer for those that are available and around.    Right before school starts (or soon after) we will have a PDC retreat and getting-to-know-you team building social/overnight trip as well.

This is going to be a great year! I am very excited to get to WORK!  (Keep up your push-ups)
