Back from Break, Starting Concert Prep!!!

HI!!!
Hope Everyone had a Happy Turkey Day (as my 3 yr. old son calls it)!

Here is a temporary show order proposal.  Let me know if I missed anything.  I tried to make it so there are not too many costume changes and that not all the same styles of dance or themes are next to each other.  For example some similar ones could be: (UVU is doing a dance on the over-use of technology, Dance 2: "there's an app for that", Curiosity: robot, Jailbreak: hip hop).

I will send the schedule for this week.  Plan on staying every evening until 8pm, except Monday.  Next week, it may be later.  This is mandatory for these next 2 weeks!  Next week will require you to stay later, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Prepare for this.  Bring homework, snacks, etc.  Choreographers, you should be cleaning your dance ever chance you get.  Choreographers must be prepared to light their dances with their lighting sheet filled out before they go up to the lighting booth!

We welcome parents to bring snacks and drinks during our long nights in the auditorium.  If one parent wants to be in charge of a sign up for this, that would be awesome.  We will also need help/volunteers for selling/taking tickets and selling concessions.  We welcome help when we are laying the floor (this Wednesday right after school) and when we are striking the stage next Friday night (taking up the floor/cleaning up) right after the show.

All dancers must stay and be a part of all set up, clean up, and the productions process.  Putting on a concert (including students learning how to space and light their own dances) is part of the core curriculum for Dance Company.

Here is a proposed show order:

LPHS Dance Class Field Trip:
“University of Utah’s Performing Dance Company Performance”
Thursday, October 18th 2012 5:30pm at the Marriot Center for Dance (U of U)

This Performance:
BA and MFA Dance students at the University of Utah have the opportunity to audition for works being created by the University’s dance faculty, as well as guests.  This concert includes works by Juan Carlos Claudio, Pamela Gerber Handman, Satu Hummasti, Sharee Lane and guest artist John Beasant III.

Graded Assignment: Concert Critique (50 points)
It is a required graded assignment for students in Dance 1, 2, 3 and PDC to attend one university or professional level modern dance concert a semester and write a critique on it.  There are only a couple approved performances available, do not leave it until the last minute at the end of the semester!  This concert performance is approved to count towards the concert report assignment.

Through attending and viewing artistic concert dance, students are able to see professional dancers and professional choreography, thus enhancing their perception, understanding, and appreciation of dance.   Students see new possibilities for dance and what to aspire to when dancing, performing, and choreographing themselves.  There is so much that can be learned through watching a live performance.  This can also count as make up work.

Cost: $6
This concert is $12, be we have the opportunity to see it at a reduced rate along with our bus transportation.

Schedule:
4:10 pm                        -Meet at front of LPHS to load bus (with permission forms and payment receipt)
5:30 pm                        -Performance
approx 7:00 pm             -Leave UofU in SLC
approx 8-8:30 pm            -Arrive back at LPHS

Photoshoot and RW Workshop update

Photo Shoot Canceled:
Due to a car racing thing on Saturday, we will not be able to have our action shots taken at the Salt Flats on Friday as there will be set up and camping and practice going on there. We will re-schedule. There is a great location up Springville Canyon we would like to get our headshots and company picture taken. We could do our dancing/action shots there too, unless everyone is really sold on the Salt Flats. Let me know your preference. Sherry Ward (S.W. Portraits) will do the pictures and you have the option of ordering different packages or discs if you want.

September dates she is available Friday and Saturday are:
Oct 31-Sep 1 (but it is Labor Day weekend)
Sep 14-15 (but it is Homecoming Dance on Saturday and Game on Friday)
Sep 28-29

I was thinking we could do our retreat overnight one of these weekends. This will allow us to all be together and get to know each other in a non-dance setting, and get ready together for our pictures. We can get pictures Friday evening 2 hours before sunset, or Saturday morning (very early), and/or Saturday Evening. Parents welcome to come to our retreat (let me know if you are interested in coming and helping).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ririe-Woodbury Young Dancer's Workshop
Friday: 8:40am-5:30pm (Come early to sign release forms, stay later to practice with Brad for our Mars Dance)
Saturday: 9am-4pm

Basic Schedule:
9-10:30 - Technique
10:30-12 - Lunch
1-2 - Repetory
2-3 - Ballet or hip hop or Jazz
3-4 - Conditioning

Address:
Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company
138 West 300 South (Broadway), Salt Lake City, UT 84101
phone: 801.297.4241 | fax: 801.297.4235

It is by the tall Wells Fargo building.
If car pooling, I think there is a 400 S exit right that goes right out of the car pool lane.

Bring lunch, water, dance shoes, layers of clothes, etc.
If people want to socialize, they can go out to eat at a restaurant after the workshop, not during lunch, but that is something on your own or with your parents.

Parents:
Please check your email and our blog. I will be sending out a questionnaire to you about what things you are willing and able to do to help out with PDC this year.

Thanks for everything thus far! This is going to be a great year!

Reminder: Dancers must make a personal call/text to me if they are going to be late or if there is a problem. Do not be late!

Parade Update

Parade this Saturday!
Let's represent Lone Peak and our Dance Company!

Thanks Whit and Kira for choreographing for the parade!  Practice for those who missed it or for those who want more practice: Tuesday and Friday 6-7pm.

We have the truck (Whit) and cooler with drinks (Chayn) taken care of.  Thank You!

We still need a sound system from which we can project music from to the audience.  The music will be looped or on repeat.  Does anyone have any ideas or connections for this sort of thing?  I don't know if we need a generator for the speakers, or any kind of hook ups?  Maybe dads or boyfriends might know about that kind of stuff.

Does anyone have any candy they would like to donate for us to throw?

We will be wearing your own white runners/sneakers/hightopsblack shorts (like plain exercise shorts that are not as short as spankies.  We saw some at Walmart for around $5).  Everyone will need a black racerback sports bra (to wear under the tops we have (I will bring).  I have seen sports bras cheap at Walmart too, and this can help with addressing the issue of not having spaghetti straps in the classroom too, if worn under a spaghetti strap top.

Hair must be neatly pulled back any way you wish, but nothing falling out.  Wear nice makeup, with lipstick slightly darker than what you normally wear.  You may want to think of something that doesn't run off or smear too much, as you will get sweaty.

Example of Shorts (but black).  You may want to wear your hotshorts underneath.
OP Juniors Cheer Short 2-Pack
Here is an example of an inexpensive pack of sports bras (I think you get 4 for $9).  We do also have the option of everyone wearing their own bright/neon sports bra under the top too.  The top we are wearing is racerback and is black.

Fruit of the Loom Shirred Front Racerback Sport Bra, Style 90011F

Don't Forget:  Sunscreen and Water Bottles!

View the parade route; it starts at Highland Elementary School, goes south on 6000 West, turns east on 10400 North, and ends at Heritage Park.

SATURDAY:  Parade line up starts at 8:00 AM.  Parade starts at 10:00 am.

Here is the parade handbook of rules and procedures:

Some parade rules and procedures to note:
1. For the safety of all participants, if an individual starts the parade on foot they must stay on
foot.  If an individual starts the parade in a moving vehicle, they must stay in that vehicle the
entire parade route.

2. Tossing of candy is acceptable during the parade.  Candy must be tossed at least six (6) feet
away from the parade entry to prevent any spectator from becoming injured by parade entry
(vehicle, float, horse, etc.)  Any parade entrant who does not toss candy at a safe distance may
be disqualified from the parade.

4. Parade must continually move, no stopping on the parade route.  If your group causes
parade gaps, you may be disqualified from the parade.
Parade Handbook5. Groups that are not in their assigned line-up location by the start of the parade may be
disqualified from the parade or placed at the very end of the parade (to be determined by
Parade Staff).

Pick Up and Drop Off:
2. Staging Area: The staging area is in the front parking lot of Highland Elementary (10865
North 6000 West), in Highland.  Please DO NOT PARK ANY VEHICLES IN THE
STAGING AREA UNLESS THEY WILL BE USED IN THE PARADE.  See Parade Staging
Map.

3. Drop Off: Please enter 6000 West from 11000 North. If your vehicle is being used in the
parade please continue on 6000 West to the school parking lot/road in front of the school to
line up in your designated spot.  For those dropping off parade participants turn west on 10930
N. and drop off participants in the neighborhood around the corner from the school or utilize a
residential street south of the school (do not park on 6000 W).  Equestrian entries may
assemble behind the school (10930 N & 6150 W) then come to the parade staging area when
the parade starts.

4. Pick Up: The parade route will head south (on 6000 West) from Highland Elementary to
10400 North and east to Heritage Park and south on the Alpine Highway ending at the church
south of Heritage Park (approximately 1.4 miles).  All vehicles should turn into the church
parking lot (south of the baseball field).  Please loop all the way around the church parking lot
before stopping to allow other vehicles to enter behind you.  Very large entries may pull in
front of the church to drop off participants.

Hopefully this answers everyone's questions.
